September Events
Here is a listing of family friendly and budget friendly events for September.  Most are intended for all children, but I picked out ones that my Special little one may also enjoy.  Next month I plan to greatly expand this monthly section. 

Friday, September 9
 Mad Science Water Program

Come learn about all the neat properties of water and learn how to conserve it with this fun and interactive program from Mad Science! No registration required.  Intended for 1st through 5th graders.

Saturday, September 10
Children's Discovery Carnival
Sellwood Park SE 7th and Miller, Portland, 1 pm to 4 pm
Cost:  Free -
Come explore Johnson Creek at five interactive activity stations (make bird feeders out of used paper towel rolls as one example) designed for children 12 and under on Saturday, September 10 in Sellwood Park from 1pm - 4pm. All supplies for the activities will be included, as well as some small snacks. To RSVP your family for this event please email Amy at amy@jcwc.org. Groups welcome.

Sunday, September 11
Chalk Art Festival
Hillsdale Farmer's Market, Portland, 10am to 2 pm
Cost: Free -
The annual Chalk Art Festival is happening at the Hillsdale Farmers Market in front of Rieke Elementary School on Sunday, September 11, 2011. From 10am to 2pm, participants of all ages and abilities can enjoy free chalk as they produce art on the sidewalk! Live music and shave ice will join the festivities. Everyone is welcome. Sponsored by the Wilson Area Arts Council

Pump It Up

Pump It Up, or as it is called on our street "Bouncy World" is an inflatable play place.  We have attended many birthday parties here and have enjoyed their "Pop in and Play".  They also offer a Special Needs kids night.   Here is their description:
Always the 3rd Wednesday of the month! 6:30 - 8pm Do you have a Child with special needs? Join us for a special family event!!! Sensory Night is 1.5 hours of playtime for children with special needs. The event is only open to kids with special needs, their siblings, and their parents. $7 per child. Parents are free. Must wear socks to play. No reservations.

Portland Children's Museum

Little sensory seekers like my Noah love this place.  He won't leave the water room.
Get a discount on your admission to the Portland Childrens Museum courtesy of Autism Speaks and the Portland Walk Now for Autism Speaks. You'll need a coupon, and here's how to get it:  "Like" them on their Facebook page and look for the coupon in their Albums, Print out as many as you need ($1 per admission).  On this special Thursday, the museum is open until 8 pm.  Autism Speaks will be on hand to answer any questions you may have for them.

Saturday, September 24th
Buddy Walk to benefit NW Down Syndrome Association.  
Cost: $10 per individual, $8 per family member, includes t-shirt

The Northwest Down Syndrome Association (NWDSA) announces the 13th annual Portland and Southwest Washington Buddy Walk. Together with the National Down Syndrome Society, the NWDSA has been bringing together families, professionals and individuals touched by Down syndrome every fall since 1999 at the Rose Quarter Commons in Portland. We are looking forward to another great walk, complete with exciting speakers, live music with Supervisor, and great activities for kids of all ages. We will also be enjoying food donated by Gustav’s, Cliff Bar, Dreyers, Kidz with Ice and Nestle.
